Helping to serve your community, Chris Evans MP Help Shape Britains Progressive Future

9th January 2017 - Use proceeds of crime to help prevent crime, says Islwyn MP

Use proceeds of crime to help prevent crime, says Islwyn MPThe MP for Islwyn, Chris Evans, is encouraging local groups in his constituency to help prevent crime by applying for a grant from the Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent, Jeff Cuthbert.

Local groups have until 27th January this year to apply for a share of £250,000 from the PCC’s Partnership Fund, which is funded by cash and assets seized from criminals.

This year the PCC’s priority is to fund projects which help to prevent crime, support victims, promote community cohesion and deal with anti-social behaviour.

Each group will be able to apply for between £250 up to £10,000 from the scheme which has already delivered nearly £750,000 to 250 community projects in the Gwent Police area.

Mr Evans said: ‘Some of the most effective front-line projects which help prevent crime and support victims are run by unsung heroes in local community groups.

‘To run their community projects they need money and I can think of few better sources of funding than cash seized from criminals. The proceeds of crime can and must be used to help prevent crime and for the common good in local communities.

‘I would strongly encourage any local groups in my constituency and beyond to apply for funding if they meet any of the funding criteria.’
