Helping to serve your community, Chris Evans MP Help Shape Britains Progressive Future

18th November 2016 - Islwyn MP calls on constituents to help ‘spread the warmth’

Islwyn MP calls on constituents to help ‘spread the warmth’Islwyn MP Chris Evans has joined Age Cymru’s national ‘Spread the Warmth’ campaign aimed at raising public awareness of the health risks that cold weather and a drop in temperature can have on older people.

According to Age Cymru, one older person dies every seven minutes from the cold during winter months. This is due to a range of factors including older people being disconnected from family members and being unable to affording higher energy bills.

The charity offers help, practical support and advice for over-50s on their website www.ageuk.org.uk and by telephone. Anyone in Gwent seeking advice is urged to call 01633 240 190 or the Age Cymru Advice line on 08000 223 444.

Mr Evans said: ‘It is shocking that so many older people every year suffer during Christmas which is supposed to be a happy and positive time. That is why the support and advice Age Cymru provides it is so important.

‘If you are over 50 and you think you might benefit from advice for heating your home and staying warm this winter, please get in touch with Age Cymru. It really can make all the difference.

‘I would also encourage everyone in my constituency to help to ‘spread the warmth’ by supporting Age Cymru in their work. Posters and leaflets are available on the Age Cymru website to raise awareness. Alternatively they would be very grateful for donations which really do help to change lives.’
