Helping to serve your community, Chris Evans MP Help Shape Britains Progressive Future

21st September 2016 - Islwyn MP invites local politics students to enter video competition

Islwyn MP invites local politics students to enter video competitionIslwyn MP Chris Evans has invited local students to test their filmmaking skills and political ideas in a short video competition after discussing US politics with Crosskeys College A-Level students.

Run annually by the Political Studies Association, this year’s short video competition is on the theme ‘Do you have to be superman / superwoman to be US President?’ Teams of post-16 students have until Friday 21st October to make a short video discussing the question.

The aim of this year’s competition, which is being sponsored by YouGov, is to encourage students to explore the role and limits of individual political leadership and the merits of a presidential system. Short listed teams will be invited to present their ideas to politicians, journalists, pollsters and academics in Parliament in November 2016.

The Islwyn MP recently visited A-Level Politics students at Coleg Gwent Crosskeys Campus to discuss and answer questions about the upcoming US Presidential Election and is encouraging them to enter.

Mr Evans said: ‘I am always very impressed by the level of interest and knowledge shown by local politics students, including those at Crosskeys College, show not only to British Politics but also comparisons with the American Presidential system.

‘This competition is a fantastic way to encourage students to think about important political issues such as leadership in a different way. It will also help them to learn how to express and present their ideas, developing vital confidence and team work skills.

‘I would invite any school or college interested not only in my constituency but more broadly to consider entering into this competition. I wish all entrants the very best of luck.’
