Helping to serve your community, Chris Evans MP Help Shape Britains Progressive Future

27th Septmeber 2016 - ‘Look out for the signs of prostate cancer’ says Islwyn MP

‘Look out for the signs of prostate cancer’ says Islwyn MPIslwyn MP Chris Evans has encouraged men within his constituency to be vigilant of the signs of prostate cancer as part of Urology Week 2016.

The annual awareness week which takes place between 26th and 30th September is organised by the European Association of Urology and aims to highlight urological conditions among the general public. Prostate cancer is a major urological condition and is the most common cancer among men in the UK.

According to Cancer Research UK, all men with prostate cancer who are diagnosed at the earliest stage in the disease will survive for five years or more. It is therefore key that men are aware of the symptoms, which include frequent or unusual urination. A full list of symptoms can be found on the NHS Choices website www.nhs.uk/conditions/Cancer-of-the-prostate/

Mr Evans said: ‘Although it can feel awkward to talk about, it is vital that we raise awareness of the symptoms of prostate cancer and Urology Awareness Week is a good opportunity to talk about it.

‘Prostate cancer is the most common kind of cancer in men but it is also among the most survivable kinds of cancer if diagnosed early.

‘That means knowing the symptoms and visiting your GP if you think you might have them. Older men have a greater risk of developing the disease and they should ensure they can spot the signs as early as possible.’
