Helping to serve your community, Chris Evans MP Help Shape Britains Progressive Future

29th September 2016 - ‘Mary Berry has competition from Cwmcarn Pensioners’ says Islwyn MP

‘Mary Berry has competition from Cwmcarn Pensioners’ says Islwyn MPIslwyn MP Chris Evans has said that Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry has competition from Cwmcarn Pensioners Club after sampling coffee and cakes as part of Macmillan’s ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ charity fundraiser.

The ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ is run every year by Macmillan Cancer Support and aims to raise funding and awareness of the support the charity provides to people facing cancer. Last year’s coffee morning raised over £25 million and the charity aims to raise more this year.

Coffee mornings have been held around the country all week with cake sales and raffles, all aiming to raise as much money as possible. Cwmcarn Pensioners Club held a coffee morning featuring a raffle, cake and book sale in aid of the charity which attracted many local residents.

Mr Evans said: ‘Cwmcarn Pensioners Club pulled out all the stops this year for the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. Judging by the cakes they had on offer I think Mary Berry could learn a trick or two from the ladies at Cwmcarn Pensioners.

‘I would like to thank all of those involved who made the coffee morning happen. It’s all for Macmillan Cancer Support, a fantastic cause and charity who I am very proud to support. I would encourage anyone to attend one of the many Macmillan coffee mornings taking place over the coming days.’
